Hayley Leyshon — Leadership & Inclusion

For parents & families

You don't have to navigate this alone.

Independent advocacy and SEND support. Someone informed and impartial alongside your family.

It's okay to ask for support.

Navigating education systems can become overwhelming, particularly when a child is struggling to attend, regulate or have their needs recognised.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Overwhelmed by meetings and paperwork
  • Unsure whether your child is getting the right support
  • Confused by the SEND system and its processes
  • Feeling like you are not being heard
  • Worried about the future and what comes next

Advocacy is not about creating conflict with school. It is about helping everyone understand the child and agree what needs to change.

SENDIASS or a parent advocate?

Many families use both. SENDIASS is free, impartial and an excellent first step. Here is how the two differ.

SENDIASSParent advocate
Service offered A free, impartial and confidential service funded by the local authority, providing information and advice on SEND. An independent service offering tailored one-to-one support, working alongside you to navigate the system.
Focus Information and guidance about options and processes, empowering you to make your own decisions. Strategic support and advocacy, helping you understand, plan and communicate effectively.
How it works General information and signposting. Support is usually brief and solution-focused. A trusting relationship built over time, with ongoing tailored support and practical strategies.
Meetings May attend in an information-sharing role, not always available. Does not represent you. Attends with you where agreed, and helps present your child's needs clearly and confidently.
Confidentiality Confidential within the service. They do not act on your behalf. Fully confidential. I work for you, not the local authority or the school.
Cost Free. Paid service, with flexible packages and pay-as-you-go options.
Not sure where to start? You don't have to decide on your own. Sometimes SENDIASS is exactly the right service. Sometimes families benefit from using both together. Get in touch for a free initial conversation and we will work out what is most useful.

Every family is unique. Support is tailored to you.
